The legal bit
Terms of Service
Last updated 5 October 2026
These are the rules for using The Yarnist: the website, the newsletter, the courses, and the community. By using any of them you are agreeing to this.
Who we are
The Yarnist is operated by Yarnist Media LLC, a limited liability company registered in Wyoming, United States. Post reaches us at 30 N Gould St, Ste R, Sheridan, WY 82801, United States, and the business is run day to day from Tallinn, Estonia.
Contact us any time at hello@yarnist.co.
Your account
Some things need an account. Keep your login to yourself, give us accurate details, and tell us if you think someone else has got in. Accounts are personal: please do not share access with other people, because that is the main way paid material leaks.
What you are buying
When you buy a course, a membership, or a pattern, you are buying a personal licence to use it. You are not buying ownership of it.
You may: use the material for your own knitting, and knit and sell items you make from our patterns. We would rather you made things.
Please do not: copy, re-sell, or hand on the course material or patterns themselves; share your login; or use our videos and written material to teach your own paid classes without asking us first. If you want to teach from our material, email us. The answer is often yes.
Paying
Prices are in US dollars. You are buying from Yarnist Media LLC. Checkout runs on ThriveCart, and your payment is processed by Stripe (including Link) or PayPal. Tickets to single classes may be sold through Eventbrite, which handles the payment under its own terms. We never see or store your card details.
Some products are one-off purchases and some renew automatically. Renewal intervals differ between products, and a promotion may change the first period or the price. Whatever applies to your purchase is shown at checkout before you pay, and that is what governs. You can cancel a renewing product at any time and keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for. Yarnist Insider works differently: see the guarantee below.
Refunds: the Happy Knitter Guarantee
If you’re not happy, we’re not happy.
- Weekend tickets. If a weekend isn’t what you hoped, let us know and we’ll refund your ticket in full.
- Yarnist Insider. Cancel any time, and we’ll refund what’s left of your year.
- Everything else. If something is not right, email hello@yarnist.co, tell us what happened, and we will agree what to do about it with you. We would rather sort it out than argue about a rule.
If you are a consumer in the UK or the European Union, you have a statutory right to cancel a purchase within 14 days. For digital content that right ends once we start delivering it, if you asked us to start straight away and acknowledged that at checkout. Those rights sit above anything on this page.
Live events and recordings
Each event page says what a ticket includes, and the times shown there are Eastern time. A weekend ticket gives you the live sessions and a link to the recordings, which you keep. Yarnist Insiders watch the recordings inside their account for as long as they are members.
If we have to move or cancel a session, we will email you, and you will still get the recording. The link to watch is for you, so please do not share it.
The community
The community is a place to talk about knitting: to show unfinished work without bracing yourself, ask what went wrong with a sleeve, and find out you are not the only one who started over three times. That is what it is for, and the rules exist to keep it that.
- Be an adult. Disagree, but do not be unpleasant about it.
- No politics. There are other places for that.
- The community is not customer support. If something is wrong with your account, an order, or your access, email hello@yarnist.co and we will sort it out properly. Posting it in the community only delays the fix.
- Bring a grievance to us directly. If you have a complaint about The Yarnist or anyone who works here, email us and we will deal with it properly. Complaints aired publicly in the community, or attempts to organise other members around one, will be removed without warning. This is not a venue for that, and airing it publicly is the slowest possible route to getting it fixed.
- Do not advertise, and do not post other people's patterns or paid material.
We can remove posts or accounts that break these rules.
What you post stays yours. How we may use it is covered in the next section.
Things you send us and things you post
We are a small business, and the best thing anyone says about us is usually something a knitter said first. So we need permission to repeat it.
When you send us something, or post something in the community, you give us permission to use it to promote The Yarnist. That covers emails and replies to the newsletter, reviews, survey answers, comments, questions, and photographs of your knitting. We may quote it on our website, in emails, in social posts, in advertising, and in course material.
What we use, and what we do not
The test is the situation you shared something in, not how personal it is.
- If you answered a question we asked — a question of the week, a survey, a prompt in the newsletter — what you write back is fair game, and that includes a personal story. You chose to answer, in a place where answers get read.
- If you told us something private in passing, it stays between us. If you mention a bereavement, an illness, or a hard year while writing to us about something else, we are not going to put it in an advert.
- If it is not obvious which of those it is, we will ask you first.
Photographs
Photographs of knitting, we may use. Photographs with faces in them we use only if you posted them in the community yourself. We will not take a picture of you or your family out of an email.
Editing
We may correct spelling, grammar and punctuation, and shorten something for length. What we will not do is change what you meant. If tidying it up would change the sense of it, we will quote you exactly as you wrote it, or not at all.
The rest
You keep ownership of everything. This is permission to use it, not a transfer of it to us. That permission is worldwide, costs us nothing, and does not expire.
We credit people by name. Tell us if you would prefer initials or nothing at all.
You can say no, at any time, without giving a reason. Email hello@yarnist.co and we will not use it, and we will take it down from anywhere we have already used it. We would rather lose a good quote than use one you are unhappy about.
The newsletter
The newsletter is free, and you can leave with one click from any issue. We sometimes recommend other newsletters or products, and where we earn something from that we will say so.
What we promise, and what we do not
We work hard to make our teaching accurate and clear. We cannot promise that every technique will suit every yarn, every pair of hands, or every project, and knitting involves your own judgement about needles, tension, and materials.
The site and its content are provided as they are. We do not guarantee the site will always be available or error-free, and we are not responsible for the content of other websites we link to.
To the fullest extent the law allows, our liability to you is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the problem arose. Nothing here removes any right you have that cannot legally be removed.
Ending things
You can stop using The Yarnist whenever you like. We can suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, or that is used to redistribute paid material. If we close a paid account for a reason that is not your fault, we will refund the unused part.
Which law applies
Yarnist Media LLC is registered in Wyoming, United States, and these terms are governed by Wyoming law.
If you are a consumer in the UK or the European Union, you keep the consumer protections of the country you live in, and nothing here takes those away.
Changes
If we change these terms we will update the date at the top. If the change matters, we will tell you in the newsletter before it takes effect.
